How to Make Money by Sharing as an Affiliate Marketer

Last updated on January 4th, 2025 at 08:02 pm

Today, I will share my thoughts on Step 3 of the Positivity Mantra… I am sharing! It’s the most pivotal of the blogs I’ve written so far because I’ll discuss how affiliate marketers make money by sharing what they know and think.

Various currencies arranged on statistical charts symbolize global success from affiliate marketing.
Knowledge is your currency in affiliate marketing.

I’ve phrased that wrong. It’s about what you and I can share so we can make money online from affiliate marketing. We will talk about earning dollars, pounds, Euros, yen, rupees, or whatever your currency of choice is, and that’s exciting. Let’s dive into it together…

How Affiliate Marketers Make Money by Sharing

Affiliate marketers like you and me make money by connecting people with products and services that will improve their lives. We add value to our customers’ lives by providing reliable, informed content that allows them to make confident decisions when shopping around.

We do this by sharing our knowledge, experience, lifestyle, and opinions on a niche website or a social space like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. This can be through blog posts or videos categorized as reviews and comparisons, how-to guides, opinion pieces, or informative journalism.

With me so far? Well then, let’s explore how to…

Make Money by Sharing Your Knowledge

As an affiliate marketer, you will share the knowledge you already have or are prepared to research. You’ll answer your visitors’ questions by writing thorough but concise blog posts or creating a video. This will attract visits to your website and gain buy-in from your audience.

A blogger/vlogger at work, with a laptop, camera, and notepad, depicts sharing knowledge by creating content.
Use all the tools at your disposal to create engaging content.

If you look carefully, you’ll see that my first post at Ten Steps Away (after the “About This Site” article and legal pages) responds to the question, is affiliate marketing difficult? I wrote it because my visitors need to know before they invest more of their time here.

After all, I don’t want my visitors spending hours learning the ropes of a trade they don’t fancy in hindsight. I’ve been upfront and honest from the outset, and I hope it retains those with a genuine interest in making money online—people like you who want to take action.

This is one example of sharing my knowledge as an affiliate marketing beginner. Now that I’ve learned the ropes, I can prepare like-minded individuals for the road ahead.

Ideas on Knowledge You Can Share

You may have learned the ins and outs of a trade and can pass your knowledge on to people pursuing the same career path. “Paying it forward” is the proper term.

For example, if you’re a heating engineer, I’m sure you’ve had to work on quite a few unusual boilers over the years (put your filthy mind away while I’m working!). How did you go about fixing those awkward boilers? Where did you source the parts from? What did you recommend to the owner?

A heating engineer working on a boiler with various tools and a manual nearby illustrates the process of using professional expertise to solve problems.
Your professional expertise can help solve people’s problems.

If you’re a plumber, imagine all the do-it-yourself tips you can offer, your expertise in complex piping arrangements, and your knowledge of how to work safely when doing plumbing jobs. You’ll have endless ideas for helpful blog posts that people will read and value. They’ll buy your recommended tools and equipment because you’ve demonstrated your know-how and helped them.

If you’ve traveled extensively and know the ins and outs of a city, country, or continent, people will always want to discover more about places, whether or not they go there themselves. History is the same if you have a passion you’ve nurtured for a past age.

What are your hobbies? Do you paint, craft, or play sports, for example? Walkers want to know about hiking boots, readers want to know about books, philatelists wish to know about stamps, and trainspotters want to know about steam engines. These are all good ideas for an aspiring affiliate marketer.

Turn your passion into an affiliate marketing niche.

You don’t need to be a complete expert, not now or ever, but you will be seen as an expert when you start sharing what you know. Not everyone does it, and their secrets die with them, a wealth of information squandered. A wealth of affiliate commissions left untapped by our plumber.

A Summary for Sharing Knowledge

The phrase is “a wealth of information.” You can become wealthy by sharing your knowledge with others, so know your worth now as you begin affiliate marketing. It’s time to be introspective and non-judgmental. You have more knowledge than you think and will accrue more by embarking on this affiliate journey. Research will be needed, but confidence is the key right now, and I have complete faith in your ability to succeed.

Like you, I am an affiliate marketing beginner in most eyes, but I am willing and keen to share everything I know. I don’t want you springing the same traps I’ve found myself snared in from time to time. We’re doing this together and will help each other along the way. Our knowledge is power, and knowledge is money, so let’s share it with the world and reap the rewards.

Make Money Sharing Your Experiences

Product reviews are power online. Who hasn’t checked something out before parting with their well-earned money? I’m curious when I need to upgrade my mobile phone, for example, or when planning a holiday abroad.

A man sits at his desk working on a laptop. Above him are two dream bubbles: one showing a smartphone and the other depicting a holiday scene with a beach and palm trees.
What do you search for online? Answer the questions others are asking, too.

People looking for something new, especially when it isn’t cheap, want to find people who have used the product or service before. I have much to tell you about my experience at Wealthy Affiliate, where I did my affiliate marketing training and met a massive community of people with the same thirst for this business. There are other platforms I rely on to progress my online business, too, and now I can share my experiences with you and other visitors to Ten Steps Away.

Consider my recommendations and sign up for programs that help build your momentum (and that they pay for themselves in good time). If that happens, I earn a commission and prove my point that sharing your experiences can make you money on the internet.

Ideas on How to Share Your Experiences

A review can be about almost anything. Holidays, gadgets, books, educational courses, and movies are just a few that come to mind without pausing to think. We used to rely entirely on newspapers and magazines for reviews, but the internet is the most popular method of finding them quickly nowadays.

A montage image depicting holidays, gadgets, books, educational courses, and movies. The laptop screen in the image displays star ratings, similar to those used in reviews.
Tell the world how a product made you feel. Get paid for getting critical!

It doesn’t have to be lengthy, either. Short, candid product summaries and star rating systems are more effective than an endless article with forensic attention to detail. Video reviews can do even better than that, and no one is stopping you from starting a YouTube channel.

You can also share your experiences in a blog or vlog. Personal journals are captivating to readers. How did you learn to control your anger? How did you beat the booze? What was it like traveling in your gap year? What challenges did you have when finding your forever home in the Highlands of Scotland? You may even want to publish an e-book and earn a passive income in that sector.

Comparison posts, “best for…” posts, and “Top 10” posts are other ways to share and monetize your experiences. Pay attention to the articles and videos that capture your interest and consider ways to adapt and innovate these favorites into your own approach.

A Summary for Sharing Experiences

You only have to look at your own internet search history to find examples of people or websites sharing their experience of a product. Your expertise will carry even more weight if you have a niche website, video channel, or social media account and know your sector.

Write about your experiences, however extreme.

The opportunities are boundless, and I urge you to think outside the box. Look at what influences your own buying decisions, too. Take all these ideas and channel them into your affiliate marketing efforts. Something will surely stick and earn you an income, but you must have patience.

Make Money Sharing Your Lifestyle

If you study the site mantra, you’ll notice that being influential is one of the skills/behaviors I encourage on your path to positivity. It’s a valuable trait for anyone hoping to make a passive income online, and “influencer” is almost a job description now.

I’ll cover this in-depth later, so I’ll keep things brief, but think about what you do for pleasure, necessity, and luxury. What products do you pamper yourself with, and how do they make you feel? How do you organize your day? What services do you use that make this easier? Which hotels do you stay at when you travel, and why is it worth paying more to use them?

There are two images: one shows a glamorous woman with a designer handbag and champagne flutes in a luxurious reception room, and the other is a wide-eyed girl in glasses, her bedroom a clutter of gaming gear and CDs.
You don’t need to be glamorous to have a fascinating lifestyle!

Sharing your lifestyle means showing people what they are missing but enabling them to have a similar experience. Again, your platform can be a website, video channel, or social media. You’ll also have affiliate links for the products and services you insist on using so others can buy them.

Make Money Sharing Your Opinions

You may have a unique take on something and can use that to press your marketing message further. In many ways, we’ve covered this section already when we spoke about reviews and recommendations. There’s an extra nuance, though.

Having a strong opinion will resonate more than a bland or apologetic one. “I will never use BRAND A again because BRAND B is better at half the price” is more effective than “BRAND B has an edge on BRAND A, compounded by its cheaper price tag.”

Having an opinion will attract ears and gather crowds.

As a reasonable, placid individual, I must stress that you don’t need to behave like an idiot when you have an opinion. Just be assured, confident, and to the point. Be forthright in your views, and make your voice the loudest. Oh, and most assuredly, be right!

More You Can Share as an Affiliate Marketer

I’ve covered the strong cards affiliate marketers play to make money by sharing. However, here are some additional suggestions that I’ll summarize quickly for you:

Share Your Sources & Resources

Tell your readers your reference points if you research or borrow statistics or science from another source. For example, quotes should be attributed, and data sources should be made clear.

If your article is inspired by a particular book, study, or website, you should give your visitors the links. They might want to explore the topic further, so sharing your source material is helpful. You can also sell them the book!

A computer screen displaying an article, with reference materials like books, research papers, and web pages surrounding it, symbolizes thorough and well-documented content creation.
Document your discoveries!

Sharing your resources isn’t a sign of weakness; it builds trust. By sharing your sources, you show due diligence in writing your piece, especially if you’ve considered multiple schools of thought. Linking to an alternative argument is another good play, especially when your subject matter is sensitive. It’s also possible to establish supportive relationships with other websites and organizations. They might reciprocate a link if they value your work, which helps get your post ranked higher.

Share Your Wealth

I don’t practice this myself as I have yet to work on a niche where it may be appropriate. However, it’s not twisting a reader’s arm to tell them you donate a percentage of your revenue to charity. This encourages visitors to buy from you to support a worthy cause. It also shows that you’re not a charlatan solely motivated by money. Ensure you’re running a profit first and be true to your pledge.

A man passes a note from his wallet to a charity worker, who puts it in a tin.
Sincere donations bring genuine pleasure!

Supporting a charitable organization can motivate you to work harder, keep going when things are tough, and be ambitious with your business. You’ll feel the personal benefits from sharing your wealth, knowing you are a good person in a money-hungry world and not just a player in this derivative enterprise you’ve taken on.

Finally, depending on your location’s laws, your donations may be tax deductible. This is not my area of expertise, so please refer to government information on donating to charity in the UK or deducting charitable contributions in the US if you want to benefit from this perk.

Get yourself on social media and try to build a following. Sharing your posts on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc., is free and can bring more traffic to your website. Besides growing an e-mail list, social media is the best way to connect with repeat visitors and keep them coming to your website.

Don’t forget to share on social media!

Since we’re on the subject, use the social icons on this site if you think a particular post will benefit your circle of friends. My gratitude is intense and fervent and will last until the end of time. Ha, well, I’d be more than pleased if you could support the site that way.

Final Words on “I Am Sharing”

I want to leave you with positive vibes about the spirit of sharing because the concept extends beyond the scope of this article. Individuals, communities, and entire societies can benefit from one solitary and simple gift: the ability to share.

Sharing is a way to build trust and strengthen relationships. It encourages growth and learning. It benefits the sharer in the form of self-worth and new connections. Sharing opens our hearts and makes us vulnerable, but reciprocation is healing and wholesome.

Welcome to an affiliate marketing family!

These positive connotations must be considered as you go public with your websites. Always think about your end users and share as much with them for free as possible. Your website is your brand, and you want to cultivate openness and honesty as staples. It is how affiliate marketers make money by sharing, but it should also come from a good place with integrity as a core principle.
